The DiaMonD (Diagnostics for Monitoring Disease) UREKA programme offers undergraduate students an exciting opportunity to carry out research and acquire a range of scientific skills over a 10-week period in summer 2007. Students will conduct an independent research project with a research group in the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute (BDI) at Dublin City University.
Research projects will focus on the science and technology underpinning the development of advanced biosensors for use in biomedical diagnostics. This is a highly multidisciplinary research area and involves developments in the fundamental sciences of Biology, Physics and Chemistry, recent technological advances in Microfluidics and Nanotechnology, as well as issues concerning the human interface with technology and science education.
Students will also receive a full education experience by attending a variety of events including communication skills workshops, industry visits etc. to enhance their skills as a researcher. Undergraduates in their second or third (not final) year of a degree in science, engineering, science education, nursing, allied health or social science are encouraged to apply. The programme will run from 11th June -17th August 2007 with a stipend of €300/ week. International Students will receive support for their travel expenses.
