On Wednesday Nov 17th, BDI postgraduate researchers Troy Hibbard and Paul Conroy won 1st and 2nd Commercialisation Prize respectively in the CSET Thesis in Three competition, which ran as part of Innovation Dublin.

Troy's winning presentation was entitled "Every breath you take". Troy is in his second year of study for a chemistry PhD at the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute under the supervision of Dr. Tony Killard. Troy's thesis research explores the link between breath analysis and biological dysfunction.

Coming in a very close second, Paul's presentation entitled "Pimp my Antibody", described his research which is centred around antibody-based recognition of biomarkers for cardiovascular disease for incorporation into novel point-of-care device.

Paul is a final year PhD Student at the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute, DCU under the supervision of Prof. Richard O'Kennedy.

The event held in the Sugar Club, Dublin was organised by Clarity & CNGL. 19 PhD students from 6 SFI funded CSETs gave their elevator pitches on their PhD research.

On the night over 100 audience members were entertained by bite-sized pieces of research projects in 3 slides of 3 minutes each. The event was sponsored by the participating CSETS: CLARITY, CNGL, CRANN, SBI, Lero and BDI.

The commerical prizes which were awarded to research presentations that demonstrated most commerical potential and was sponsored by the commerical development managers of the CSET research centres.
