BDI HOSTS SUMMER COURSE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
The Education & Outreach lab was a hive of activity recently when the BDI hosted a summer course for young people, who took part in a wide range of activities and experiments. The two week programme ran from June 23rd until July 4th and was attended by 22 students, ranging in age from 14 to 17 years. During the programme we explored different ways of diagnosing diseases, including diabetes and Lyme disease. We also investigated some chemical reactions, surface science and immunology. The students also made and tested their own microfluidic chips. Many thanks to the BDI researchers who helped out and gave talks about their pathway to a career in science (Ruairi Monaghan, Adam Murphy and Niamh Gilmartin).
