BDI POSTGRADUATE STUDENT AWARDED ROSSE MEDAL
On March 22nd, BDI postgraduate student Daniel Kirby was awarded the Institute of Physics Rosse Medal for communicating postgraduate research. Professor Sir Peter Knight, President of the Institute of Physics, presented the medal to Daniel at the Institute of Physics Weekend in Galway.
35 postgraduate physics students from all over Ireland entered the competition with 8 making it through to the final. Each of the students gave a short presentation to the audience and panel of judges and answered questions on their research.
Daniel is a post graduate student working in Prof. Jens Ducrée's group. He is currently carrying out research on the detection of cancer from a blood sample on a rotating, magnetic, microfluidic, lab-on-a-disk platform.
Congratulations to Daniel on this significant achievement.
