Prof Joerg Enderlein visits BDI
On Friday, June 19th, Prof. Joerg Enderlein, Georg August University, Germany visited the BDI and presented a seminar entitled "Tuning of Fluorescence Emission in Nanocavities".
During the seminar, Prof Enderlein discussed his ongoing research in the field of plasmonics. In particular the seminar highlighted, how fluorescence in sub-wavelength metallic nanocavities is dramatically different from free space fluorescence due to the strong coupling of the fluorophores' electronic transitions to cavity and plasmonic modes. Prof. Enderlein's talk introduced the physical background of this phenomenon, and presented modelling and experimental results concerned with changes of lifetime, brightness and spectral changes.
