CTYI Biomedical Diagnostics students in the Education & Outreach Laboratory at the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute

Summer Course in Biomedical Diagnostics 2009

From 22nd June – 10th July 2009, the BDI delivered an intensive summer course in Biomedical Diagnostics to 13 - 17 year old students, led by Dr. Aoife MacCormac. This course ran as part of the CTYI (Centre for Talented Youth in Ireland) summer programme, in which academically gifted students from around the world take part in lessons and activities for 3 weeks.

The students participated in lectures and practicals relating to biomedical diagnostics for the duration of the course, including subjects such as cell biology, immunology, microfluidics and fluorescence, as well as the ethical issues related to point-of-care devices. Students also each researched a topic related to disease and diagnostics and gave a presentation on this at the end of the course.
